In the heart of Transylvania County, North Carolina, "Land of Waterfalls", lies DuPont State Forest. It has five beautiful waterfalls within it's boundaries as well as many rivers and streams and lots of hiking trails. Check out pictures from my trip there yesterday here.

South Mountains State Park, North Carolina
Tucked away 18 miles south of Morganton, NC lies South Mountains State Park. It is s hidden gem, that was almost without visitors yesterday. It has lovely riverside trails, picnic areas and beautiful 80 foot High Shoals Falls.

The Quiet Side Of Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina and Tennessee is the most visited national park in the US system, with over 9 million visitors in 2010. If you want to escape to a quite spot in the park, check out the Big Creek area on the eastern side of the park within North Carolina. This is one of my favorite areas. An old logging road follows Big Creek to Midnight Hole and Mouse Creek Falls, which is only 2 miles from the trail head.
